Overview

At the request of Mishima Town, with whom we have had a relationship through the Local creators market, we have supported the promotion of the exchange projects related to the Friendship Agreement signed between Mishima Town and the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center.

Background

As there are only a limited number of people in the town who can practically work for the friendship agreement between Mishima Town and the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center, we were in need of people who understand Mishima Town and can make effective use of the friendship agreement with Taiwan for the future development of the town. Through the Local creators market, the town consulted with us and agreed to be the project coordinator.

Support contents

We planned and coordinated the exchange with the Taiwanese side based on the following points: promoting awareness of the exchange program in the town, looking ahead to the future management of the town, involving people who can support the exchange program in the town.

As a result, we were able to propose a variety of approaches to solving the town’s problems, and the exchange program has become a centerpiece of our support for finding clues for the future of the aging and depopulated community.

Synergy

Through the exchange program with Taiwan, we have signed a friendship agreement with Yunlin National University of Technology. This has added an academic perspective and has made it easier for us to understand the actual situation of the local communities in the mountains of Taiwan and the braid work made from the same plant-derived materials.
In this way, we can see a future where issues can be shared and examples of each community can be shared.

Memorable episodes

A student from Taiwan, who once learned various things from Mishima Town as a student, is now the dean of Yunlin National University of Science and Technology, and has become one of the leading experts on urban development in Taiwan. The various examples of urban development in Taiwan will provide hints for the future of Mishima Town. I feel as if I am catching a glimpse of true exchange that transcends generations and space.
